How To Upgrade FIFA 21 To Next-Gen On PS5 And Xbox Series X|S

FIFA 21 Next-Gen has officially been released yesterday and players can now upgrade their game on the new PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. As previously announced by EA Sports, the upgrade will bare no extra costs thanks to the Dual Entitlement feature.

The next-gen version of FIFA 21 takes the game to a whole new level with over 700 animations, realistic ball physics, realistic player bodies and hair movement and cinematics that can be confused with real life footage.

What is Dual Entitlement?

This new feature from EA is exclusive to those who previously owned a PS4 or an Xbox One and made the switch to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S respectivly. With Dual Entitlement you can upgrade your copy of FIFA 21 from your previous console to the next-gen one for free. The FIFA 21 upgrade is allowed only on the same console systems, so you cannot make an upgrade from Xbox One to PS5.

You can also switch back to the current-gen consoles, if you wish, with the progress made on the next-gen consoles. This offer will be available until FIFA 22 will be released so be sure to get it by then.

What game progress does it carry over?

Ultimate Team and VOLTA FOOTBALL players will be able to transfer all their progress made within these two game modes completly over the next-gen consoles, that includes fifa points, coins, players, XP progress and any pre-order content related to the two modes. Unfortunately other modes progress including Online Seasons, Co-Op Seasons, Career Mode, Pro Clubs, etc will not get transfered over.

How can I make the FIFA 21 upgrade from PS4 to PS5?

The process is pretty straighforward but here are the steps you need to take in order to make the full switch:

Disc to Disc

1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console (or create an account).
2. Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
3. Go to the game hub for the PS4 game.
4. Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
5. Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
6. After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

Digital to Digital

1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console.
2. Find the PS5 game in PlayStation™Store, or by Search, and go to the game hub for the PS5 game.
3. Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
4. Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
5. After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 game.

Please note that the download size is 55 GB so it may take a while to download.

How can I make the FIFA 21 upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S?

The upgrade process is simple on Xbox as well if you follow the next steps:

Xbox Disc to Disc

1. Insert disc and Series X|S stub will automatically be installed.
2. User will be prompted that the game needs an update.
3. Once the update process completes, the game can be launched.

Xbox Digital to Digital

1. Digital is bundled, so players will have access as usual and will be prompted for the update.
2. Once the update process completes, the game can be launched.

The download size of the game is around 40 GB.

Unfortunayely FIFA 21 Origin and Steam players will have to continue playing the current-gen version of the game until the release of FIFA 22 as EA Sports won’t release the upgrade on PC.
